Rusty. Handmade ceramic fox figurine
A sitting fox figurine in amber, black and pale slip, with wide startled eyes and the look of someone recently caught out.
Rusty sits upright, front paws planted, tail curled behind him — the posture of a fox who has decided he belongs exactly where he is. His coat is painted in warm amber and russet, with a pale chest and dark legs rendered in coloured slips over lava fleck clay. The surface carries the texture of that material: small dark specks scattered through the body, visible beneath the transparent glaze.
What makes Rusty is the face. Wide white eyes with dark pupils, a small open mouth, pointed ears tipped with black — he looks genuinely startled, as though he has just been caught doing something he shouldn't. It is an expression that is hard to walk past without acknowledging.
He sits comfortably on a shelf or sideboard. A fox with opinions and possibly a slightly guilty conscience.
